Bigfoot has been chasing Hollywood almost as long as Hollywood’s been chasing him—showing up in family comedies, found-footage horror, arthouse dramas, and at least one documentary about a man who built his own Bigfoot out of roadkill fur.
Here are ten movies about Bigfoot, or featuring him prominently.
10 Movies About Bigfoot
Most of these movies about Bigfoot were never big theatrical releases.
Harry and the Hendersons (1987)
The one everyone actually knows: a family accidentally hits Bigfoot with their car, brings him home, and adopts him. John Lithgow stars; the creature effects won an Oscar.
Sasquatch, the Legend of Bigfoot (1976)
A pseudo-documentary shot like a nature film, following a research team into the Pacific Northwest. Played a huge role in shaping the “docudrama” style that later Bigfoot movies leaned on.
Night of the Demon (1980)
A gleefully gory Bigfoot slasher — genuinely infamous in horror circles for how far it takes the creature-attack scenes.
Willow Creek (2013)
Bobcat Goldthwait’s found-footage horror film about a couple hiking into the woods near the site of the Patterson-Gimlin film. Slow-burn and unsettling rather than gory.
Exists (2014)
A found-footage horror film from Eduardo Sánchez, co-director of The Blair Witch Project, about a group of friends stalked by a Sasquatch at a remote cabin.
The Son of Bigfoot (2017)
An animated family adventure about a teenager who discovers his missing father is Bigfoot, and sets out to find him.
Bigfoot Family (2020)
The animated sequel to The Son of Bigfoot, with the family now defending Yellowstone-style wilderness from an oil company.
Missing Link (2019)
Laika’s stop-motion adventure-comedy, featuring a lonely, well-mannered Sasquatch-like creature (voiced by Zach Galifianakis) searching for his distant relatives, the Yeti.
Big Fur (2020)
A documentary about a champion taxidermist obsessed with building the world’s most anatomically accurate Bigfoot from scratch. Stranger, and more touching, than it sounds. Watch with ads on Youtube.
Sasquatch Sunset (2024)
An A24 arthouse film following a family of Sasquatches through a year in the wilderness — no subtitles, almost no dialogue at all. Jesse Eisenberg and Riley Keough spend the whole movie in full creature suits.
